Poetry Workshop for Children and their allies
The inspiration for making poetry lesson videos came during the Coronavirus Pandemic in the winter of 2020. Millions of children were suddenly out of school, sheltering at home, missing their friends, They had to learn how to navigate a new way of life, including family and social relationships, and with their teachers and schools. It wasn't clear how many children were able to express and process their feelings and perceptions as their lives went through this radical - and overnight - change. Poetry provides a safe and accessible way for children - and adults - to express themselves. As important is the opportunity poetry gives to have fun, be creative, and deepen communication skills.
The poetry lessons were originally designed for children and young adults who take poetry classes with me, and they are available here for anyone to use. I will be adding to them as time goes on.
My hope is that these poetry activities will bring a ray of light into the dark spaces of quarantine and be shared with others. If you would like to share the poems, please feel free to contact me. I would love to read them.
